Poem: The Art In The Ice

The Art In The Ice

There was once an Elfish ice princess
Who painted great colorful art.
As she glided along a frozen sheet of ice,
her feet drew the image in her heart.

Her heart was wholesomeness, virtue and kindness
And it was filled with colors of beauty.
She treated all living things with great care.
She wasn’t the slightest bit snooty.

As she glided along, she blessed each thing.
Her art was great, while really quite small.
To see it you needed a magnifying glass.
You see, she was just two millimeters tall.

But the colorful paintings she drew from her feet
were astounding, and glittered in gold.
I met her just once, this Elfish princess,
when she was six hundred years old.

“Six hundred forty-two, to be exacting,” she said.
“And I’ll tell you some good things to remember.
I don’t have much time, so take good notes…
The things I’m about to tell you last forever.”

So I took good notes in my time with her,
And now I pass these notes on to you.
The words from her heart, that painted her art
They’ve served me and they’ll serve you well too.

“Make time to record the smallest of things.
Even faint ink can assist all me-mo-ries.
And do things for people whom you’ll never meet.
Like planting (what will become) ancient oak trees.”

“And share what you’ve got, but stay true to yourself.
Make your dreams active, don’t them lie dormant.
Bring them into being through action and repetition:
perfect practice each time, then performance.”

“Belief, plans, then action… give your whole heart,
be true to the greatness inside.
Let yourself feel everything deeply,
be courageous in life. Don’t hide.”

“And be persistent, keep a flame alive,
no matter how many times you fall down.
Life’s about how many times you get up.
Dig deep and your strength can be found.”

“I have much more to share,” she said.
“Sadly my time is drawing to a close.
But live true and pass along what I’ve shared here.
The soul is joyful so long as it grows.”

As she moved out of view of my magnifying glass,
the most beautiful sight did I see.
Colors sprang forth from behind her gliding feet…
And a reflection of the heart inside you and me.
