Poem: Always, (Always, Always,) Persist

There is such a thing as giving up too soon.
You never, never ever need to give in.
In fact, just the opposite is true
Your persistence is the world you now live in.
The things you’ve decided to repeatedly do…
The thoughts you’ve decided to think…
The people you’ve decided to spend time with…
Those are all part of the link…
The link to see where you are today
is to view what you have done in the past.
If you do not like where you have come to,
then – right now – make changes that will last.
The link between the future and today
is the moment-ish judgments of your conscience.
The link is a series of little tiny decisions
that seem to make no difference.
But when they add up and stack together
They start being more like multiplication.
Now to persist you may have to be flexible…
You’ll probably have to go through aggravation.
You’ll probably have to change a little
and maybe evaluate your mettle.
But as long as your aim values life as the high ground,
then there’s never any need to settle.
With that understanding you can move forward;
Always changing “I’ll try” to “I will do”.
And whether the struggles get you down
will come from what’s inside and all around you.
So surround yourself with things and people
who can help you get where you want to go.
Find people who offer encouraging words
and who already know what you want to know.
And once you have assembled this team
there’s simply no need to be afraid.
You’re sticking with it, you’re seeing it through:
when you need it, your team will be your aid.
Following through on the things you start
is the very best way to exist.
When things get tough, the tough move forward.
So always, always, always persist.
